If your TV or speakers are just loud enough, Google Home can have trouble hearing your commands. Sometimes Google Home can't hear you when you're casting to a Chromecast or speaker.
In the last 4 years I kept playing all my assistant devices at 20% volume, using Spotify. Follow these steps to reset the device through the Home app. On the newer Mini models, switch OFF the mic and then press and hold the Center button until the device turns OFF and back ON again. If done right, the music will stop playing on the devices. With this feature, you can connect multiple Nest/Home devices together and play media on them.
Control Google Nest devices

How to change the volume on a Nest Mini?
There are several ways to control the volume of the Google Assistant, your media, timers, and alarms on Google Nest or Home devices. With the feature disabled, when you speak to Google Home, the volume of Chromecast devices will remain the same like it always has. Another major issue with the Nest/Home devices is with music playback. At least some of these fixes apply to the said issue too. To Adjust or Turn OFF this option, follow these steps on the Home app.
Use the silent button in the Google Home notification in any mobile devices in the same network, as shown below. This will silence Google Home, but not pause the playing. You can use the button in the notification to resume the volume.
Stop Others from Controlling Your Speaker
We hope the above solutions would have stopped Google Home speaker from changing the volume automatically. If it still continues, update the Google Home app on your phone. And if the issue arises only when you listen to music via third-party apps such as Spotify, then update those apps too. Sometimes, it’s a bug in apps, and updating them would fix the issue. If your Google Home speaker increases the volume only for alarms and timers, it’s because there is a separate setting to control their volume. The setting is independent of your normal Google Home volume.
Select the Device Information option and then select WiFi. Once the traffic exceeds the threshold, the network becomes laggy with high latency and slower speeds. Unstable speeds invariably lead to increased latency and buffering issues. A probable remedy to such problems is to refresh the network. Tap on the "X" icon next to the name of the device you want to unpair. On the Home app, click and open your Nest/Home device.
